\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Research Fund for International Scientists Call for Proposals FY 2021<\/strong><\/p>

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>

The\u00a0Research Fund for International Scientists<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0(hereinafter referred to as\u00a0the\u00a0RFIS<\/strong>)\u00a0supports\u00a0international scientists who\u00a0are ready\u00a0to come to China\u2019s mainland\u00a0and conduct basic research in areas\u00a0within\u00a0the funding scope of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC),\u00a0which includes mathematics and physics sciences, chemistry sciences, life sciences, earth sciences, material sciences, engineering, information sciences, management sciences, and health sciences. The aim of the\u00a0RFIS<\/strong>\u00a0is to contribute to the\u00a0long-term,\u00a0sustainable academic collaboration and exchanges between Chinese and international scientists.<\/p>

I. Types of Grant<\/strong><\/p>

The\u00a0RFIS<\/strong>\u00a0consists of three sub-types:<\/p>

  1. The\u00a0Research Fund for International Young Scientists\u00a0(RFIS-I)<\/strong><\/li>
  2. The\u00a0Research Fund for International Excellent Young Scientists\u00a0(RFIS-II)<\/strong><\/li>
  3. The\u00a0Research Fund for International Senior Scientists(RFIS-III)<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>

    II. Project Duration<\/strong><\/p>

    Projects are expected to start on\u00a0January 1, 2022\u00a0and close on December 31, 2022 or on December 31, 2023.<\/p>

    III.\u00a0Average\u00a0Award\u00a0Amount<\/strong><\/p>

    For\u00a0the\u00a0RFIS-I<\/strong>, applicants can request up to 200,000 RMB per year (per project) .<\/p>

    For\u00a0the\u00a0RFIS-II<\/strong>, applicants can request up to 400,000 RMB per year (per project) .<\/p>

    For\u00a0the\u00a0RFIS-III<\/strong>, applicants can request up to 800,000 RMB per year(per project) .<\/p>

    All the funding\u00a0is direct cost.<\/p>

    IV. Eligibility<\/strong><\/p>

    The\u00a0RFIS<\/strong>\u00a0is aimed at international scientists with foreign citizenship who are ready to work at Chinese host\u00a0institution. The host institution must be based in China\u2019s mainland and have registered at NSFC.<\/p>

    Specific requirements for each sub-type of\u00a0the\u00a0RFIS<\/strong>\u00a0are as follows:<\/p>

    1. RFIS-I<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>

      (1) Doctoral degree obtained within the past 6 years (PhD must have been obtained after January 1, 2015);<\/p>

      (2) Experience of conducting basic research or postdoctoral research;<\/p>

      (3) Commitment of working for no less than 9 months each year at the host institution during the implementation of the project;<\/p>

      (4) Compliance with Chinese laws and NSFC\u2019s relevant rules and regulations while conducting research in China.<\/p>

      1. RFIS-II<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>

        (1) Doctoral degree completed within the past 15 years (PhD must have been obtained after January 1, 2006);<\/p>

        (2) Senior academic title;<\/p>

        (3) Experience of conducting basic research projects as Principal Investigator (PI);<\/p>

        (4) Commitment of working for no less than 9 months each year at the host institution during the implementation of the project;<\/p>

        (5) Compliance with Chinese laws and NSFC\u2019s relevant rules and regulations while conducting research in China.<\/p>

        1. RFIS-III<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>

          (1) Senior academic title;<\/p>

          (2) Outstanding academic achievements and significant international influence;<\/p>

          (3) Commitment of working for no less than 9 months per year at the host institution during the implementation of the project;<\/p>

          (4) Compliance with Chinese laws and NSFC\u2019s relevant rules and regulations while conducting research in China.<\/p>

          V. Additional Criteria for Eligibility<\/strong><\/p>

          1. The applicants\u00a0can be granted an RFIS a maximum of once per RFIS sub-type.<\/li>
          2. An applicant shall only apply for one\u00a0RFIS\u00a0in a year.<\/li>
          3. The grantee\u00a0of an on-going\u00a0RFIS project shall not apply for\u00a0a\u00a0new\u00a0RFIS\u00a0project.<\/li>
          4. If the applicant has submitted an application for any of the sub-types of the RFIS, the application shall not apply for the following programs in the same year:<\/li><\/ol>
