DESCRIPTION:Title\nElectrospinning of Sustainable and Intelligent Materials\nSpeaker\nProf. Seeram Ramakrishna (National University of Singapore)\nTime and Location\n19:00-20:00 (Beijing Time), 13:00-14:00 (Israel Time), December 26th, 2024 (Thursday), GTIIT Auditorium, North Campus\nZoom Link:\nhttps://gtiit.zoom.us/j/9630844007?omn=98917188853\nAbstract\nUrbanization could be viewed as humans thriving in a manufactured world.  Manufactured products are ubiquitous in buildings and infrastructure, gadgets of living spaces, healthcare and wellbeing, birth, aging and death, transportation, energy systems, automation and robotics, information and communication technology, air, water, food and nutrition, agriculture and farming, textiles and garments, sports, leisure, entertainment, cultural activities, waste and pollution management, sanitation, safety, security, learning, education, climate mitigation and adaptation, and manufacturing and production.  In other words, modern living is inundated with the manufactured products.  There is a growing demand for products made from sustainable materials as well as intelligent materials.\nSustainable Materials are the materials that foster a healthy living ecology and a circular economy via the elimination or reduction of associated greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, wastage, and resources depletion. They are purposely designed and | or selected with lower ecological footprint and social costs, and higher circularity while satisfying the cost as well as functional requirements. They are less detrimental to the Earth’s ecosystem and human health. Intelligent materials constitute a class of materials distinguished by their remarkable ability to perceive, modify, conform, and execute specific tasks in response to external or environmental stimuli. They possess inherent capacity to self-regulate responses autonomously, thus enhancing their functionality and performance.\nIn recent years, electrospinning emerged as a nanotechnology method of manufacturing science and engineering.  This seminar illustrates this technology with strategies for producing sustainable and intelligent materials | products.\nBiography\nProf. Seeram Ramakrishna is a well-known researcher in electrospinning | nanofibers | nanotechnology at the National University of Singapore, which is ranked among the top eight universities in the world.  His fibers R&D spans more than three decades.  He made seminal contributions in understanding and enhancing the biological, chemical, electrical, electronic, mechanical, and physical responses of nanofibers | nanomaterials.  He championed cross-fields R&D approach to advance nanofibers in air filtration, liquid | water filtration, composites, regenerative medicine | tissue engineering, energy generation, energy storage, sensors, intelligent materials, and wearables. Electrospinning is now a commonly used R&D technique around the world.  He has been named among the World’s Most Influential Minds (Thomson Reuters), and a Highly Cited Researcher with 205 H-index and 200,000 citations. He received a PhD from the University of Cambridge, UK, and TGMP from Harvard University, USA. He also received advanced research experiences at MIT and Johns Hopkins University, USA and KIT, Japan.  He is an elected Fellow | Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, China; National Academy of Engineering, India; Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng), UK; Singapore Academy of Engineering, Singapore; ASEAN Academy of Engineering and Technology; International Academy of Engineering and Technology; and AAAS, USA.  He is also an elected Fellow of ASM International, ASME, AIMBE, USA; IMechE and IoM3, UK; ISTE, India; and IUBSE (FBSE).  His academic leadership includes Director of NUS Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Initiative; Director of NUS Bioengineering; Chairman of Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore; Director of NUS Enterprise; Dean of NUS Faculty of Engineering; and NUS Vice-President (Research Strategy).\n\n \n \n
