Abstract
Ammonia electro-oxidation is an important electrochemical reaction in both environmental and energy sectors, including wastewater treatment, ammonia-fed fuel cells, onboard hydrogen production, and electrochemical sensors. Yet, the reaction efficiency is greatly limited by the sluggish kinetics, requiring high overpotential and suffering from catalyst poisoning and deactivation. Addressing such difficulties requires rational catalyst design with a fundamental understanding of the reaction mechanism. This seminar will provide an overview of ammonia electro-oxidation using transition metal/metal oxide catalysts.
Biography
Ms. Jing Chen joined Prof. Weiran Zheng’s group at Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology in July 2022. She received her bachelor’s degree from Northwest Normal University in 2019 and her MSc degree from the same institute in 2022. During her postgraduate study, she used density functional theory to study the reaction mechanism of ammonia synthesis. Her current study focuses on ammonia electro-oxidation on non-precious metals under alkaline conditions.
