Professor Xu will join GTIIT, as an Associate professor of Guangdong-Technion Chemical Engineering program in Spring 2021. He was an Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemical, Biochemical and Environmental Engineering at University of Maryland Baltimore County from 2016 to 2020. He obtained his PhD in Chemical and Biological Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (2013) and completed his postdoc training in the Stephanopoulos lab at MIT (2016).\r\n\r\nDr. Xu has received a number of awards and recognitions, including the Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-Financed Students Abroad (2012), the Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Award (2018), the Biotechnology &amp; Bioengineering (B&amp;B) Daniel IC Wang Award (2020). He served in the editorial board for the journal <em>Metabolic Engineering<\/em> (IF = 7.3) and the journal <em>Current Opinion in Biotechnology<\/em> (IF = 8.3). Professor Xu published more than 65 journal articles with a google scholar citation of 3540 and an H-index of 28, on world-leading journals including <em>Nature Biotechnology, Nature Communications, Nature Chemical Biology, Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences, Trends in Biotechnology, Metabolic Engineering, Biotechnology &amp; Bioengineering, Current Opinion in Biotechnology and ACS Synthetic Biology<\/em> et al.","position_job_benefits":"In the context of global energy transition, renewable\/low-grade energy sources and secondary energy carriers like hydrogen have received a renewed impetus for a sustainable energy transition. The research objectives are broadly aligned with the above theme.\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>The multiphase thermo-hydraulic behavior of environmentally benign, alternative zeotropic mixtures will be investigated for various applications. Although zeotropic mixtures can potentially enhance operational performance, knowledge gaps still exist in understanding their critical attributes.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Spray and combustion characteristics of alternative fuels (low-carbon\/non-carbon) for gas turbine applications. The knowledge of the combustion characteristics of pure and blends of renewable fuels is still emerging and attracts a lot of interest.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nResponsibilities will include, but are not limited to, thermodynamic analysis, participation in the design\/development of the experimental facility, experimental measurements using advanced research tools, data curation, and publication of research findings in reputed peer-reviewed journals.
