The faculty is engaged in world-class research in both pure and applied Mathematics. The research interests include algebra, applied mathematics, approximation theory, combinatorics, complex analysis, differential equations, ergodic theory, functional analysis, geometry and topology, linear algebra, nonlinear analysis, number theory, optimization theory, and probability theory. The Center for Mathematical Sciences (CMS) was founded at the department in 1988.
