Abstract

In recent years, the field of transformation optics has garnered significant attention for its innovative approaches to wave manipulation across various systems. In this talk, I will present recent results of TO inspired localized wave manipulation in gradient systems. First, in conjunction with negative index materials, we achieved two-dimensional vortex near-field pattern manipulation, demonstrating the so-called vortex Hall effect. Next, I will introduce the construction of high orbital topological defect modes in non-Euclidean metamaterials, illustrating the interconnection between topological phenomena and surface curvatures. Recently, bound states in the continuum (BICs) have drawn tremendous attention for its possibility of realizing high quality resonance. Here, I will discuss the emergence of accidental bound states within a single resonator and the engineering of multiple accidental BICs in the geometric parameter space. Through these results, I aim to highlight the potential of gradient systems in advancing wave manipulation techniques across various fields.

About the Speaker:  Dr. Yuhang Yin received his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Xiamen University in 2019 and 2024, respectively, under the supervision of Prof. Huanyang Chen. He is currently an assistant researcher at the Quantum Science Center of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area in Guangdong. His research interests encompass transformation optics, acoustic metamaterials, and bound states in the continuum, with a focus on exploring their interactions with quantum sources.
