Description

Major Research Program on Spatiotemporal Network Regulation of Glycolipid Metabolism Program Guidelines for FY2023

  1. Scientific Objectives

Taking the spatio-temporal network regulation of glycolipid metabolism as the core of research, we will reveal the perception and response mode of the organism, organs, cells and subcellular structures to the state of glycolipid metabolism; analyze the information dialogue and collaborative regulation network among tissues and organs regulating the metabolic homeostasis; find out the pathways and regulation mechanisms of the production, transport and transformation of important glycolipid metabolites; discover the new laws of the glycolipid metabolism regulation and the maintenance of the homeostasis; elucidate the roles of the metabolism changes in The role of spatial and temporal changes in metabolism in environmental adaptation and health; reveal the core mechanism of metabolic homeostasis in the development of diseases, and develop new strategies for metabolic health.

    2.Core Scientific Issues

The core mechanism of glucose and lipid metabolism, spatial and temporal network regulation, and its changing law under physiological and pathological conditions.

    3.Research Direction for 2023

This year, we will carry out the funding work in the form of “integrated project”, and encourage the project leaders who have made good progress in the research of glycolipid metabolism in the previous period to jointly apply for the project. Based on the innovative results achieved in the previous years, and taking into account the research progress and development trend of related fields at home and abroad, we will carry out integrated projects in the following research directions this year.

  (1) Glucose metabolism signal perception mechanism and biological effects.

Focusing on the biological functions of glucose and its metabolites under specific physiological and stress conditions, we will focus on the mechanism of glucose and its metabolites as signaling molecules, the signaling process and biological functions.

  (2) Lipid metabolism signaling mechanism and biological effects.

We will focus on the key pathways and regulatory nodes of lipid metabolism, study the regulatory effects of different nutrients on lipid metabolism, reveal the important metabolites in lipid metabolism that have signaling effects and their sensing mechanisms, and analyze the physiological and pathological functions.

  (3) Organelle Interaction in Glycolipid Metabolism.

Focusing on mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, lipid droplets and other key organelles in glycolipid synthesis and catabolism, we will reveal the dynamic changes and molecular mechanisms of organelle interactions in glycolipid synthesis and catabolism, and analyze the physiological and pathological functions of key regulatory factors.

  (4) Regulation of glycolipid metabolism by novel hormones.

Focusing on the maintenance of metabolic homeostasis, we will discover and identify new types of hormones and receptors that regulate glycolipid metabolism, and reveal their physiological and pathological functions, mechanisms of action, signaling pathways, and functions in cross-tissue and organ dialogue.

(5) Neural regulation of glycolipid metabolism.

Focusing on the role of neural regulation of glycolipid homeostasis, we will reveal the principle of brain regulation of glycolipid metabolism homeostasis through direct sensing of nutrients, as well as the mechanism of neural regulation of peripheral energy storage and consumption at different developmental stages by the nerves themselves or via the autonomic nervous system.

(6) Effects of microbial-host interactions on glycolipid homeostasis.

Focusing on the interactions of metabolites and metabolic enzymes of intestinal microorganisms with intestinal tissues and important metabolic organs, we will identify the key nodes and regulatory mechanisms affecting the balance of glucose-lipid metabolism homeostasis, and reveal the roles of microorganisms in pathophysiological processes, such as imbalance of glucose-lipid metabolism.

(7) Glycolipid metabolism reprogramming in tumors.

Focusing on the unrestricted proliferation ability of tumor cells, which distinguishes them from normal cells, we will analyze the new mechanism of glycolipid metabolism reprogramming that promotes the cell cycle process.

 (8) Transgenerational regulation of glycolipid metabolism.

Focus on the role of parental non-classical genetic factors in the regulation of glycolipid homeostasis in offspring, and discover their sources, transgenerational transmission modes, target organs and mechanisms.

 (9) Glycolipid metabolism imbalance and intervention strategies.

To study the imbalance of glycolipid metabolism through systematic quantitative characterization, to reveal the panoramic maps of glycolipid metabolism at different stages of disease development, and to carry out clinical (pre)intervention studies of metabolic diseases to help precise diagnosis and treatment.

(10) Metabolite subcellular fine localization analysis and high-resolution mapping.

Comprehensive high spatial and temporal resolution and high coverage metabolite identification, sensing and quantitative methods, in-situ quantitative analysis of the distribution and dynamics of important glycolipid metabolites in subcellular structures, development of original technologies, tools and algorithms, and construction of metabolite subcellular spatial and temporal dynamics of high-resolution mapping.
