Guide to the Young Scholars Forum Project
- Project Description
(1) Project type.
This project belongs to the international (regional) cooperation and exchange project of the National Natural Science Foundation.
(2) Funding field and application code.
- Engineering materials (e subordinate code must be selected for application code 1).
- Information science (the subordinate code of F must be selected for application code 1).
- Medical science (H subordinate code must be selected for application code 1).
(3) Intensity of funding.
The funding intensity is that the direct cost does not exceed 200,000 yuan/item, and there is no indirect cost for this project.
(4) Scale of funding.
The number of projects to be funded is about 3.
(5) Content of funding.
Sponsor exchange activities for holding conferences in the Mainland.
(6) Project execution period.
The research period in the application should be from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025, and the forum must be held within this time range, with a duration of no more than 3 days.
- Applicant’s conditions
According to the Measures for the Administration of International (Regional) Cooperation and Exchange Projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, the application for this project must meet the following conditions:
(1) the applicant is required to be 45 years old and below, and must have senior professional and technical titles.
(2) The applicant must be the host or main participant of the research project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China for more than three years (including) after December 31, 2025 (the main participant must be approved by the person in charge of the research project).
(3) the applicant should be the actual person in charge of the application for cooperation and exchange projects, limited to one person.
(4) Having a good foundation for cooperation with researchers in Hong Kong.
(5) Please refer to the Project Guide of the National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2024 for more detailed descriptions of the applicant’s conditions.
- Provisions on application for restricted items
(1) This project belongs to international (regional) cooperation and exchange projects, and is not subject to the restriction of “the total number of projects applied for and undertaken is limited to two”.
(2) Not subject to the restriction that the applicant can only apply for one project of the same type in the same year.
(3) The total number of NSFC-RGC cooperation and exchange projects applied by the applicant and undertaken by the project leader is limited to one.

- Application instructions
(1) Matters needing attention of the applicant.
- Before completing the application, the applicant should carefully read the relevant contents in this project guide and the 2024 National Natural Science Foundation Project Guide.
- Applicants must log in to the Network Information System of the National Science Foundation of China (https://grants.nsfc.gov.cn/) and fill in the Application for International (Regional) Cooperation and Exchange Project of the National Natural Science Foundation online. The concrete steps are as follows:
(1) Select the “Project Leader” user group to log into the system, click “Online Application” to enter the application interface, and click “New Project Application” to enter the project category selection interface.
(2) Click the+sign on the left or the “Expand” button on the right of “International (Regional) Cooperation and Exchange Projects” to expand the drop-down menu.
(3) Click “Fill in the Application” on the right side of “Holding an International (Regional) Academic Conference in China (Inter-organization Cooperation Agreement Project)” to enter the interface of selecting Cooperation Agreement, and select “NSFC-RGC Project (Mainland-Hong Kong)” in the drop-down menu, and then enter the approval number of the fund project to rely on according to the system requirements to enter the specific application filling interface.
- Instructions for filling in the application form
(1) The format of the project name (Chinese) is “NSFC-RGC Young Scholars Forum: Theme”, and the format of the project name (English) is “NSFC-RGC Forum for Young Scholars: theme”. Theme (in Chinese and English) should be the specific theme name of the forum.
(2) The project application should focus on the funding areas published in this project guide, so as to promote the development of scientific research cooperation between the Mainland and Hong Kong.
(3) In the column of “Meeting Schedule”, the schedule of the seminar should be listed in detail.
(4) When applying for the project, the applicant does not need to list the detailed information of young scholars from the Mainland and Hong Kong, but should specify the number of young scholars from both sides. 15-20 young scholars from both places will attend the meeting, and the proportion of young scholars must account for more than 50% of all participants.
(5) The participants from the Mainland and Hong Kong should come from three universities or research institutes attended by each party, and the number of participants from each university or research institute should not exceed two-thirds of the total number of participants.
- Budget compilation requirements. The applicant shall carefully read the contents of the budget compilation requirements in the application notes for the 2024 National Natural Science Foundation Project Guide, and carefully and truthfully compile the National Natural Science Foundation Project Fund Budget Table in strict accordance with the requirements of the Measures for the Management of Fund for Projects Supported by the National Natural Science Foundation and the Instructions for the Compilation of Fund Budget Table for National Natural Science Foundation Projects.
- Requirements of application materials. After the applicant finishes writing the application, he/she will submit the electronic version of the application and the attached materials online, without submitting the paper application.
(2) Receiving the project application.
The online application and receiving period of information system is from March 31, 2024 to 16: 00 on April 22, 2024.
