Announcement on soliciting suggestions for major projects in the field of earth sciences in 2024
- Positioning of major projects
Major projects are oriented to the frontiers of science and major scientific issues that meet the major needs of national economic, social, scientific and technological development and national security. They are deployed ahead of time to carry out multidisciplinary and comprehensive research, give full play to their supporting and leading role, and enhance the source of basic research in our country. Creativity.
2. Requirements and precautions
(1) Field conditions for major project approval.
1. The field recommendations should adhere to the “four aspects” and be in line with the “Livable Earth” development strategy of the Ministry of Earth Sciences in the new era (oriented towards the top-level design of “Deep Sea-Deep Earth-Deep Space-Earth System”); it is necessary to organize and implement it. and urgency. Among the priority funding areas, please refer to the key projects section of the Department of Earth Sciences in the “2024 National Natural Science Foundation of China Project Guide”.
2. The key scientific issues condensed are fundamental and forward-looking, and basic research adheres to “walking on two legs” with clear and focused scientific goals and strong interdisciplinary nature.
3. The country has good accumulation of research work and research conditions, obvious advantages in research teams, and sufficient reserves of outstanding young and middle-aged talents.
4. Compared with the international market, it may have obvious leading advantages, or it may be a gap that needs to be filled urgently.
5. With high-intensity support, it is expected to achieve greater breakthroughs in solving key scientific problems.
(2) Qualifications of proposer.
1. The first proposer should be a front-line scientist with a senior professional and technical position (professional title) and have long-term experience in basic research in natural sciences.
2. The total number of first proposers and co-sponsors shall not be less than 3 people and shall not exceed 5 people.
3. The first proposer and co-proponent can only propose or participate in proposing one major project proposal in the same year.
(3) The main content of the suggestions in the project area.
1. Basis for project establishment: Focus on the necessity of major project establishment areas. With the support of major projects, it is expected to achieve breakthroughs in solving core scientific problems.
2. Scientific objectives, core scientific issues and main research content to be carried out: limited objectives, core scientific issues that are highly condensed, forward-looking and highly interdisciplinary.
3. The existing domestic work foundation in relevant fields, the current situation of our country’s research team and its international position. The focus is on whether our country has the foundation and conditions to carry out relevant research and achieve breakthroughs.
(4) Matters that need explanation.
1. The solicitation of suggestions for major project areas of the Ministry of Earth Sciences follows the avoidance system. Current members of the Expert Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Earth Sciences are not allowed to propose or participate in making suggestions for major project areas.
2. The Department of Earth Sciences encourages cross-integration between disciplines and departments. You can fill in up to 3 application codes, of which application code 1 must be filled in with the application code of the Department of Earth Sciences. Application code 2 and application code 3 can be optional based on the interdisciplinary situation. Special note that the National Natural Science Foundation of China has optimized the application code in 2024. Please refer to the “National Natural Science Foundation of China Application Code” listed in the “National Natural Science Foundation of China 2024 Project Guide”.
(5) Submission of proposals in major project areas.
1. Please submit the Word version of the proposal in the field of major project establishment, the scanned Pdf version stamped with the official seal of the supporting unit (i.e. the first proponent’s supporting unit), and the Excel version of the proposal list. These three documents must be submitted by the first applicant together. Send the real name to geostrap@nsfc.gov.cn. The three documents are all named “Major Project Proposal, First Application Code, First Applicant”.
2. The submission of the electronic version of the application materials will be deemed that the supporting unit has fulfilled its management responsibilities and carefully reviewed the proposer’s qualifications, authenticity, completeness and compliance of the materials; it will be deemed that the first proposer has fulfilled its duty to inform other joint suggestions people and agree to jointly submit proposals in the field.
3. The acceptance time is March 1-5, 2024(subject to the time of receiving the email). Suggestions that are submitted late, do not have the official seal of the supporting unit, do not meet the conditions for major project establishment fields, and do not meet the application requirements will not be entertained.
