MER Students Shine at the 4th Research Poster Competition

The GTIIT campus recently celebrated the conclusion of the 4th Research Poster Competition, an event that showcased the impressive scientific potential and creativity of our student body. This year, the competition reached new heights of rigor and innovation, and we are proud to announce that students from the Mechanical Engineering and Robotics (MER) program secured two out of the four major awards.

Celebrating Excellence in MER

Our students demonstrated exceptional skills in both visual communication and innovative engineering:

  • Best Visual Design Award The team led by Viacheslav Papkov (1st-year Doctoral student) and Boyan Zhang (4th-year Undergraduate) from the MER program, under the supervision of Prof. Dmitry Pashchenko, received this prestigious award. Their research, titled “Compact TPMS-based Reformer for Ammonia Decomposition: Effect of Ni/Al₂O₃ Catalyst Thickness on Heat and Mass Transfer”, was recognized for its clarity, aesthetic appeal, and effective presentation of complex data.

  • Most Innovative Project Award A collaborative MER team consisting of Ruigang Chen (2nd-year Doctoral student) and undergraduates Zhicheng Zhong (Year 4), Qi Zhang (Year 4), and Zhuorui Yun (Year 3) received the innovation prize. Supervised by Prof. Mingyi Liu, their project “Dynamics-Informed Reinforcement Learning for Agile and Energy-Efficient Locomotion of a Monopedal Hopping Quadcopter” impressed the judges with its forward-thinking approach to robotics and agile locomotion.

The competition also honored outstanding work from other departments:

  • Best Undergraduate Award: Shennan HU (MSE), supervised by Prof. Elissaios Stavrou.
  • Best Presentation Award: Yiran YU (BFE), supervised by Prof. Dganit Danino.

Gratitude to Mentors and Participants

The success of our students is a testament to the dedicated mentorship of the MER faculty. We would like to specifically thank Prof. Dmitry Pashchenko and Prof. Mingyi Liu for their unwavering guidance, which has been instrumental in fostering academic excellence and shaping the research journeys of our winners.

We also extend our gratitude to all students who participated and those who visited the session. Your curiosity and active engagement in discussions created a vibrant intellectual atmosphere, proving once again that GTIIT is a hub for innovation and scientific exchange.

Congratulations to all the winners for their remarkable achievements!
