Lab Safety Instruction
To guarantee a hygienic and secure laboratory environment for both educators and pupils conducting experiments at ChE & EnvE Central Lab, this code outlines the following regulations:
- Maintain cleanliness and order in the laboratory. Bringing food or drinks, wearing open-toed shoes or loose hair, smoking and littering in the laboratory is strictly prohibited. After completing the experiment, it is essential to tidy and clean the laboratory to ensure it remains neat and orderly.
- Take care when handling the instruments and equipment; refrain from moving instrument parts or altering software settings without authorization. Moreover, changes to indoor ventilation and temperature settings must not be made without permission, otherwise, you will be held accountable for any resulting consequences.
- In the event of any special circumstances, it is imperative to contact the laboratory manager promptly. Equipment must be used and maintained in accordance with the relevant operating procedures and instructions. The operator and their group/unit are responsible for equipment maintenance costs due to faulty operation.
- Laboratory tools should be returned promptly to their designated areas after use and not removed from the laboratory. If laboratory tools are identified as damaged, they ought to be registered and reported to the laboratory administrator promptly.
- It is imperative to adhere strictly to the laboratory registration system. Timely completion of experiments is essential, and use of the corresponding equipment ought to be registered in the equipment usage book. Failure to register equipment usage will result in the suspension of reservation rights.
- Laboratory equipment and its supporting electrical facilities must be reported to relevant professionals for prompt repair in case of any failure. It is important that non-professional operators do not attempt to deal with the issue to prevent accidents.
- If an injury occurs, disinfection should be carried out immediately and appropriate action, such as bandages to stop bleeding and treatment to prevent infection, should be taken. In case of serious injuries, timely medical care should be accessed.
- In case of a fire, promptly cut off the power supply, employ fire extinguishing measures, and promptly notify both the laboratory manager and EHS. If the initial measures are not effective, vacate the premises immediately and proceed to the designated assembly point.
- In the event of equipment leakage, switch off the power supply immediately. If electrocution occurs, do not touch the person with any body part, and first turn off the power supply before removing the electrified object with an insulated tool.
- When an accident occurs, immediately report the accident to the lab manager and Emergency & Maintenance Center (0754-88077100).
