Intellectual Property: 4·26 World Intellectual Property Day

April 26, 2023 is the 23rd World Intellectual Property Day. In order to promote GT members’ understanding of intellectual property (IP) and guide them to raise the awareness of respecting knowledge, advocating science and protecting IP, GTEC organized series exciting activities for GTIIT IP Day.

Moris Eisen, PVCAA of GTIIT, delivered the greeting online. He pointed out that the knowledge generated by the research work done by universities was essential for the development of society. By methods like technology licensing, universities bring cutting-edge technologies into practices, which is of great significance to the development of the communities and regions where universities are located. He encouraged GT members starting from understanding what IP is, to how to conduct their own research and obtain their own IP, and finally thinking about how to conduct their own innovation and creation. At the end of the greeting, he wished all GT members of GTIIT to give full play to their originality, curiosity and creativity, and contribute their wisdom to a better future.

Michael Lv, Director of the GTEC, and Raanan Adin, Senior Consultant of the VC, extended a warm welcome to the government guests, teachers and students participating in the activity. GTIIT attaches great importance to innovation and entrepreneurship based on IP. The university established GTEC in 2021, which is in charge of IP protection and commercialization, industrial cooperation, and guidance for innovation and entrepreneurship of GT members.

In the IP booth on campus, teachers and students actively participated in the interesting quiz.

In the evening IP lecture, GTEC specially invited Li Changqing, a patent examiner from Shantou Intellectual Property Protection Center, to give a detailed introduction to IP  protection.

In the Q&A session, GTEC creatively designed an open discussion on whether the creations generated by AI AIGC can be registered for intellectual property protection. Huang, student from the Mathematics, shared his thoughts on this topic from the perspectives of logic, rationality and law. Material student Wang, combined with her own reality, from a personal point of view, elaborated on her own views. You are all welcome to send an email to gtec@gtiit.edu.cn, provide your thought on this topic. GTEC has wonderful gifts for you.

At the end of the lecture, the guests from the Municipal Law Popularization Office, Intellectual Property Administration and the Intellectual Property Protection Center drew prizes for the lucky audience.  All participants together took a group photo as a souvenir, which successfully concluded the activities of the Intellectual Property Protection Day.
