Overview
The Thousand Talents Program includes specific projects as follow: national major innovation project platform, major discipline and major laboratory platform, entrepreneurship talent platform, youth project, top talent and innovative team project.
How to Apply
Applicants should apply to their host institutions though relevant department.
Eligibility
National major innovation project platform
1.Long-term Project
The applicant should receive Ph.D. degree in foreign universities and be less than 55.
Professional technical personnel with experience in senior management level in globally-known enterprises or professionals and scholars with job title equal to professor in overseas renown universities or science and research institutions.
The direction of science and research should face the frontier of global science, main economic battlefield and major need of our country, be in compliance with major field related to national major science and technology specific project and national science and technology plan, with independent innovative products with broad market prospect or with access to methods of solving core and common key technology problems.
The applicant should have not worked at home in general or worked for less than one year and should work full-time at home for no less than 3 years after introduction.
For talents with impressively outstanding achievements or urgently needed by our country, requirements on the age, degree and professional title can be relaxed.
The applicant should not apply for more than twice in principle.
2.Short-term Project
The applicant should have not worked full-time at home when introduced or have worked for less than one year at home. The requirements of long-term project should also be met.
The applicant should work full-time at home for no less than 3 years after introduction and no less than 2 months per year.
Major discipline and major laboratory platform
1.Long-term Project
The applicant should receive Ph.D. degree in foreign universities and be less than 55.
Scholars with job title equal to professor in overseas renown universities or science and research institutions.
The applicant should have not worked at home in general or worked for less than one year and should work full-time at home for no less than 3 years after introduction.
The applicant should be a first-class researcher in the world, have published papers with major influence in significant core journals in recent five years, received international key science and technology awards, or mastered key experimental skills or key technology in science program construction.
2.Short-term Project
The applicant should have not worked full-time at home when introduced or have worked for less than one year at home. The requirements of long-term project should also be met.
The laboratory only serves as a platform for talent introduction, not referring to national major laboratory.
Entrepreneurship talent platform
The applicant should receive Ph.D. degree in foreign universities, be less than 55 and meet the following requirements:
1.With globally advanced technical achievements or ability to fill the gaps at home and great potential of industrialization
2.With overseas entrepreneurship experience or being in middle or senior management level in internationally-known enterprises with strong operation ability.
3.The applicant should have been back in China for less than 6 years and the company owned by the applicant should have been operated for more than 2 years but less than 5 years with core-technology-involved products in mid-trial or industrialized stage.
4.Being the main starter and first shareholder or largest natural person shareholder (with no less than 30% share; if the enterprise owns huge capital injection, the share can be deducted.)
Age requirements can be relaxed for outstanding talents.
Youth project
The applicant should have doctor degree and be less than 40 years of age.
The applicant should have more than 3 years’ consecutive overseas working experience.
The applicant should have not worked at home in general or worked for less than one year and work full-time at home for no less than 3 years after introduction. The applicant should have not worked at home in general or worked for less than one year.
Top talent and innovative team project
Top talent and innovative team project should adopt “one matter on solution” principle and the application materials should be submitted separately.

Project Duration: 3-5 years
Award size: would be announced when the shortlist is confirmed every year
Proposal Submission
The host institutions should send the paper materials and electronic materials before July 10, 2017.
