GTIIT Shines in the 2025 Guangdong Provincial College Students Flag Football Championship

The 2025 Guangdong Provincial College Students Flag Football Championship was held on April 26 at Guangzhou Civil Aviation Vocational and Technical College. This year, the event set a new participation record, attracting over 300 athletes from 26 universities across Guangdong. For the first time, the competition included women's and mixed-gender categories.

The GTIIT Flag Football Team, established in the Winter Semester of 2024 and coached by Gordon Chen -a former player for the Guangzhou Goat Football Team, entered the championship after a year of dedicated preparation and passionate training.

In their debut appearance, GTIIT's women’s team delivered an outstanding performance, ultimately winning the championship title. Throughout the tournament, the team competed fiercely against strong opponents, including Guangdong Environmental Protection Engineering Vocational College, Guangzhou Civil Aviation Vocational and Technical College, and Qingyuan Vocational and Technical College. Their teamwork and perseverance were truly commendable.

The GTIIT men’s team faced stiff competition in Group A, which included powerhouse teams from Guangzhou Software Institute and Guangdong Polytechnic Institute (the eventual group champions). Despite the challenges,
the GTIIT men’s team earned a respectable sixth place finish.

GTIIT’s participation, and especially the championship victory by the women’s team, highlighted the outstanding sportsmanship, determination, and teamwork of our students. It brought great honor to the university and further enhanced its reputation in the Guangdong collegiate sports community.

Thanks to this success, the GTIIT Flag Football Team has now qualified for the NFL-organized National University Flag Football Championship, to be held in June 2025. This marks a significant milestone and an exciting opportunity to showcase GTIIT’s sporting excellence on the national stage.
